STOMPER PROMOTIONS IN ASSOCIATION WITH REV EM’ UP PROMOTIONS PRESENT SHAM 69 – THE ORIGINAL 1977 LINEUP

SHAM 69 was formed in the working-class community of Hersham (in Surrey) in 1975 by singer and lyricist Jimmy Pursey; the name came from an ancient bit of graffiti celebrating a local football team’s winning season in 1969. From the start, Sham 69’s politics were populist, and their sound accessible; straight-ahead four-square punk with a hard rock influence and lyrics that often used sing-along slogans in their choruses, such as “If the Kids Are United” and “(GonnaBe A) Borstal Breakout.

SUPPORTS

JANUS STARK “A rock ‘n’ roll program of crashing metal and punk rock guitars with an almost 1960s poppy psychedelia sensibility” Janus Stark were formed at the same time that lead-singer and six stringer extraordinaire Gizz Butt was also the guitarist for The Prodigy during their height-of-success ‘Fat of the Land’ period, which was a number one album in 38 countries in 1997. Dave Grohl described the band as ” a great melodic kick up the arse”

THE HI FI SPITFIRES (featuring UK Subs guitarist Steve Straughan) are a three piece punk rock band who formed in 2008 who play all of their own material. Been described by one journalist as a band who would fit comfortably in a record collection between Give ‘em enough rope by the Clash and SLF’s Inflammable Material. They have probably played more gigs abroad than the UK.
